Michael is a British artist

Michael is a British artist who has been painting and actively teaching art for over ten years.

He has worked in various educational environments such as primary schools, pupil referral units, art galleries and secondary high schools teaching from Key Stages to 5 (young people aged 11-18).

He aims to enrich the brightest and most gifted pupils that have outstanding artistic ability in the best possible way.

Butler's Creative Arts School (BCAS)

Butler’s Creative Arts School (BCAS) was founded in 2008 then later developed in 2015 by Michael Butler, the Director of BCAS and a Senior Tutor.

The ethos behind BCAS is to deliver excellence to the pupils that have outstanding artistic ability from Key Stages to 5 and then see them fulfil their creative potential. These private art classes are based on practical application of the arts and teaching pupils about art history from a global perspective.

The programme aims to provide young students with access to a broad and in-depth cultural experience that goes beyond the school environment through engagement with various art projects.

Friday, 14 October 2016

Michael’s Masterclass Mondays started in October 2016 where the gifted and talented students from Key Stages to 5 (11-18 years old) were able to participate in private art lessons. All candidates have high aspirations for their careers and are dedicated to pursuing their goals both creatively and academically. The aim of the weekly lessons is teach pupils about the major art movements chronologically from a global perspective. They will be taught to use materials and techniques in a new and traditional way, however the focus is not about the artist but instead about the pupils mastering their own craft and experimenting.

The classes will cover:

Art history
Short talks and films
Career support
Drawing and painting
Working with artists

Summer's Drawing and Fine Art Master Class 2016

Drawing and Fine Art Master Class

The students that attended this year’s Drawing and Fine Art Master Class at the Barber Institute of Fine Arts were selected for their artistic excellence.

Schools across the West Midlands, from Dudley, Halesowen, West Bromwich, Bromsgrove and Shropshire, were involved in the DFAMC. The programme is a true representation of cultural diversity and how both state-funded and private schools can collaborate and meet the needs of their students; also, on the day, there were students present from Poland, China, Hong Kong and Greece.

All of the candidates spent an extended period of time in Barber’s Prints and Drawings Study Room - gallery sketching and examining artworks.

The DFAMC is a unique programme that provides a springboard for wider collaboration across the West Midlands because the Barber Institute of Fine Arts is part of the University of Birmingham, which is part of the Russell Group. They represent 24 leading UK universities that are committed to outstanding teaching and research.
